Solution overview
Businesses are now far more interested in putting products directly into consumers' hands through trade fairs and exhibition halls. Associations, consumer bodies and shopping-event organisers have multiplied quickly as a result, drawing large numbers of companies showing their products and several hundred visitors coming to buy.
The job is to provide Wi-Fi for everyone attending an event, and to combine Wi-Fi with the event's other communications activity. The great difficulty is that while there is heavy traffic, each interaction is usually brief. The system also needs a fully wireless path to each Wi-Fi access point across a total of 1,000 m², with stable, powerful transmit output throughout. The Hybrid Wi-Fi Mesh solution also carries sponsors' advertising banners to attendees. Hybrid Wi-Fi Mesh resolves these system difficulties with precisely the following capabilities.
Solution highlights
Interference sources minimised by using the 5.8 GHz band
When it comes to deploying Wi-Fi in trade fair and exhibition centres, interference is the nightmare of almost every Wi-Fi company: overlapping channels, high-power audio noise, LED lighting, magnetic fields and more.
With experience across many Wi-Fi installations in trade fair and exhibition centres, WICELL is confident it can offer you a range of approaches that cut interference to a minimum. WICELL products also operate in the 5.8 GHz band, which rejects interference very well.
Handles large numbers of concurrent users
WICELL product ranges carry some of the most powerful specifications on the market today: RAM always above 128 MB and CPUs from dual-core up to 16 cores, handling 50 – 120 concurrent connections.
Blocks downloads via IDM and BitTorrent
Users tend to reach for download software such as BitTorrent and IDM to fetch large files quickly. On a Wi-Fi network, though, it takes only 2 – 3 users running IDM or BitTorrent to congest the network or bring it down completely. The Wicell system has this feature built in, so you can block unwanted applications outright.
Point-to-point technology brings a wireless link to every stand
Running cable to each stand to provide Wi-Fi in a trade fair or exhibition centre looks poor and is not really practical. WICELL's point-to-point wireless technology uses the 5.8 GHz band for long reach, creating a virtual link from the access point in each stand back to the central unit, while using 2.4 GHz to broadcast locally within each area. That assures the highest speed (less interference) and a tidy appearance (no cabling) while still serving each stand's internet needs well.
Advertising built into the hotspot application
At trade fair and exhibition centres, beyond advertising and presenting products at the stands themselves, companies also want to improve the visitor's direct experience by bringing them to the company website automatically through WICELL's HOTSPOT application. The WICELL HOTSPOT application can sit right on the LAN, assuring the fastest, most stable connection — something cloud hotspots cannot manage.
