SMS and Authenticator
Two-factor authentication for admin accounts, reducing the risk of system takeover.
Overview
Current admin security issues
Admin accounts are usually manufacturer defaults; IT changes the password at first login. If the installer does not hand over the password, the owner cannot intervene. If IT forgets the password, each device must be removed and reset — costly when there are many APs. Conventional methods do not tie admin rights to the owner’s phone/email.
Technology solution
Two-layer solution
IT submits registration details for the Wi-Fi system admin account. The admin authentication account is sent by SMS to the owner’s phone number. The owner has the final say on revoking and re-issuing the admin account. IT only manages system functions. Revocation/re-issue is handled from WiCell’s Cloud centre — no need to remove devices for a manual reset.
