DEDICATED WI-FI SOLUTION FOR CONFERENCE HALLS & THEATRES

Solution overview

Most ordinary Wi-Fi products on the market (SOHO units for individuals and families) are limited both in the number of users they can carry and to a small space. Deployed at specialist sites — hotels, resorts, universities, airports, hospitals, conference centres, supermarkets, warehouses, factories, outdoor events, festivals — they simply cannot cope.

Events with large audiences held in halls and theatres need a Wi-Fi system with wide coverage, stable connectivity, strong security (essential for important occasions) and interference rejection good enough to work in today's environments full of transmitting equipment. WiCell's Wi-Fi range provides the most advanced technologies and features available today, delivering a stable, powerful Wi-Fi network for major events with thousands of users.

Solution highlights

01

AUTOMATIC LOAD BALANCING OF USER NUMBERS ACROSS EACH ACCESS POINT

This feature lets the system distribute connected users evenly across the designated Wi-Fi units, avoiding the situation where too many clients pile onto one device and bring the system down.

This is one of the most important features when installing Wi-Fi where large numbers of users gather at high density, such as conference halls and theatres.

For example: a hall holding 200 people served by four access points. With WICELL Wi-Fi units, the system automatically balances the load to 50 users per access point.

03

COVERAGE LEVELS CAN BE ADJUSTED EASILY

With WICELL equipment, coverage over a given area is easy to tune, either by adjusting the unit's transmit power or by adjusting its receive sensitivity.

In conference halls and theatres the area needing Wi-Fi is usually fairly open, with few obstacles and a relatively small footprint. We can therefore turn the transmit power down as low as possible so the equipment runs cooler. Covering only the area you intend, with no connection available beyond it, also helps avoid attacks from outside.

05

SUPPORTS BOTH PoE AND ADAPTER POWER

Because both PoE and adapter power are supported, installation always stays flexible.

You can use the existing network cable both to power the device and to carry its data, with no need to run a separate power cable. And where there is power but no way to add network cabling, wireless MESH with local power supply gives you complete peace of mind.

07

DUAL BAND – SUPPORTS BOTH 2.4 GHz AND 5.8 GHz

Consider a presentation or class in a large hall where the audience needs to pull data from a server. What happens when everyone connects at once? With ordinary Wi-Fi units, your system will certainly be overwhelmed for want of bandwidth.

02

BIT TORRENT AND IDM BLOCKING

Users tend to reach for download software such as BitTorrent and IDM to fetch large files quickly. On a Wi-Fi network, though, it takes only 2 – 3 users running IDM or BitTorrent to congest the network or bring it down completely.

The Wicell system has this feature built in, so you can block these applications outright.

04

SUPPORTS 100% WIRELESS LINKS – STABLE CONNECTIONS – HIGH SPEED VIA THE TDMA PROTOCOL

In some buildings where cabling simply is not possible, wireless MESH is an extremely convenient answer. With MESH you need not run cable to every access point, which minimises cabling, saves money and looks better. Connections stay stable at high speed thanks to the TDMA protocol.

06

STRONG INTERFERENCE REJECTION THANKS TO DUAL-BAND 2.4 GHz AND 5.8 GHz

The 2.4 GHz band is now heavily occupied by household and office equipment: cordless phones, microwave ovens, surveillance cameras, alarm systems, wireless speakers, keyboards and mice. Even Bluetooth uses 2.4 GHz — and Bluetooth sits alongside Wi-Fi in every mobile device today.

For this reason, many users running Bluetooth or a wireless mouse and keyboard alongside Wi-Fi find control unresponsive and hear interference in Bluetooth headphones — particularly while copying large volumes of data continuously over Wi-Fi.

A hall with a large number of users necessarily needs many access points, so channel collision is unavoidable. On top of that, the interference in conference and performance halls is severe, driven by the sound and lighting inside. The 5.8 GHz band resolves all of these shortcomings.

08

HANDLES LARGE NUMBERS OF CONCURRENT USERS – HUGE RAM, POWERFUL CPU
