Beamforming & Band Steering
WiCell Wi-Fi products support advanced RF technology: Beamforming focuses the signal toward the target device; Band Steering encourages clients to use the high-bandwidth 5 GHz band.
Overview
Beamforming
Based on MIMO antennas, it focuses the Wi-Fi signal toward the device in use instead of radiating equally in all directions. This optimises the signal and reduces interference. WiCell’s new IEEE 802.11ac generation devices already include Beamforming.
Band Steering
A dual-band technique that encourages new clients to prefer the 5 GHz band. It automatically steers devices to the best supported band for optimal performance.
Technology solution
Technical benefits
Beamforming: Optimises the network, reduces dead zones, provides stable connections and better signal quality, and improves interference rejection in dense multi-AP environments.
Band Steering: Connects on high-bandwidth 5 GHz, with strong interference rejection and better Wi-Fi quality for HD video, gaming and bandwidth-hungry applications.
Benefits
Focused signal
Fewer dead spots and more stability.
Prefer 5 GHz
Modern clients get high bandwidth automatically.
Strong interference rejection
Both Beamforming and 5 GHz improve dense multi-AP environments.
