Solution overview

Applying IT in schools is spreading ever wider, improving teaching, administration and the school's own standing. Wi-Fi is now an indispensable part of a modern school, where using mobile devices to go online, work, study and look things up has become commonplace. Pupils, students and lecturers can all keep up with the latest information and knowledge, and join lessons and the online library from anywhere on campus.

Wicell Network supplies powerful Wi-Fi access points carrying the latest technologies and features, able to serve the thousands of users on a school campus that ordinary Wi-Fi equipment cannot. The newest 802.11ac/n Wi-Fi standard and the distinctive Dynamic Mesh Bridging technology give wide bandwidth, very fast access and unlimited coverage expansion.

Solution highlights

01

Quick, convenient creation and authorisation of user accounts

With account-based Wi-Fi access to the internet, a school can easily create new accounts for Wi-Fi users across the campus and dormitories. The convenience also makes account management and permissions effective, keeping traffic on the link stable and optimising the wireless transport signal.

03

Supports up to 120 concurrent users on a single access point

Wicell's Dynamic Mesh Bridging lets access points link wirelessly to one another automatically to carry the signal, so the whole Wi-Fi system can be installed with no network cabling at all — preserving the building's appearance, leaving the architecture intact, cutting installation costs and extending service life compared with conventional cabling, while performance stays stable and signal attenuation stays within 20%.

05

User management and access quota allocation

User administration through a controlling server lets you build access and resource-usage policies for everyone on the system. The operator can also cap a user's data volume or session time by setting a quota per account or per group.

07

Billing

The charging model suits students, pupils and school staff alike. Charges can follow a default daily or monthly package, or be based on the data actually used. Accounts can be postpaid or prepaid. Payment is flexible and quick.

02

Advanced security

Beyond WPA/WPA2 encryption, there is MAC filtering to specify exactly which devices may or may not connect, client isolation to stop users reaching one another on the same network, and account authentication before any Wi-Fi user may connect — maximising information security.

04

Automatic wireless mesh technology

A school may have thousands of devices online at once. Access points therefore need powerful hardware to serve so many users. Wicell equipment allows 60 – 120 concurrent users on a single access point, enough for a class of up to 100 students. Support for the newest 802.11ac/n Wi-Fi standard gives up to 1300 Mbps of bandwidth, and very high transmit power keeps the Wi-Fi experience stable with a strong signal and fast access. Being able to serve many users at high speed saves a great deal on project cost.

06

Smart Roaming technology as polished as mobile handover, dealing with weak links instantly

Automatic Smart Roaming keeps users connected as they move between access points, latching onto each AP in turn for a continuous wireless experience with no break in the link — particularly well suited to fast transfers in OTT applications such as Zalo, Skype and Viber.

08

Very high transmit power

With very high transmit power of 500 mW – 1,000 mW across both the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands under the 802.11ac/n Wi-Fi standards, connected devices receive the strongest possible signal.

With Wi-Fi as it stands today, a modern school can let students, lecturers and staff reach the internet from anywhere. Students can seek out study material and pursue creative research. Teachers can raise the quality of their lessons with material from the internet. The school can also use the Wi-Fi connection to survey teachers and students, or send announcements to everyone quickly.

Why not build an online library from the largest body of data in the world? The school can just as easily host online seminars jointly with other education bodies around the globe. Applying wireless Wi-Fi technology brings many benefits: beyond the money saved, 100% Wi-Fi coverage presents the image of a modern, intelligent school that applies information technology in the most professional way.
